How It Works

Three steps to a fillable PDF

1

Upload or Start Fresh

Drag & drop any PDF document onto the canvas, or start with a blank page to build your form from scratch.

2

Design Your Form

Select a field type — text, checkbox, dropdown, signature — and click to place it. Fine-tune with the properties panel.

3

Export & Share

Download your fillable PDF. It works in Adobe Reader, Preview, and all major viewers. Ready to distribute.

Your Documents
Never Leave Your Device

Unlike cloud-based PDF tools, FormForge runs entirely in your browser. There's no server processing your files, no uploads, and no third-party access to your documents. Ever.

Client-side PDF rendering

PDF.js handles all document rendering directly in your browser tab.

Local IndexedDB storage

Drafts and form data persist in your browser's local database.

Zero network requests

No document data is ever transmitted. Check your network tab to verify.

Transparent architecture

No hidden telemetry. Only privacy-respecting, self-hosted analytics (Rybbit) on both the landing page and the app — no cookies, no personal data, just aggregate usage stats.

FAQ

Common questions

Is FormForge really free?
Yes. FormForge runs entirely in your browser — there are no servers to maintain and no costs to pass on. It’s free to use with no limits on the number of forms you create.
Do my PDF files get uploaded anywhere?
No. All PDF processing happens locally in your browser. Your documents never leave your device, and no data is transmitted to any server. You can verify this yourself by checking your browser’s network tab while using the app.
Which PDF viewers support the exported forms?
FormForge generates standard fillable PDF forms that work in all major viewers: Adobe Acrobat Reader, macOS Preview, Chrome’s built-in viewer, Firefox, and most other PDF applications.
Can I edit PDFs that already have form fields?
Yes. When you import a PDF, FormForge automatically detects and imports any existing form fields. You can modify, reposition, delete, or add new fields alongside the imported ones.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the app is loaded in your browser, it works without an internet connection. Your form drafts are saved locally in your browser’s IndexedDB storage and persist between sessions.
What field types are supported?
FormForge supports seven field types: text input, checkbox, radio button, dropdown select, signature, date picker, and number field. Each has configurable properties including validation rules, default values, and custom sizing.
