Is this safe for privileged client documents?
FormForge processes every PDF entirely inside your browser, so a privileged document — and every detail typed into it — is never uploaded to a server. Because nothing is transmitted, no outside party ever holds the file, which is what usually makes cloud form tools unsuitable for confidential legal work. You can confirm nothing leaves the device in your browser’s network tab. FormForge does not give legal advice or claim any compliance certification, so your professional judgement remains the authority on handling client material — but the tool is built so the file never leaves the machine.
Do clients need special software to fill the forms?
No. FormForge exports standard AcroForm PDFs, so a client can complete the form in free tools they already have — Adobe Reader, macOS Preview, Chrome, Firefox or common mobile PDF apps. They do not need Acrobat, any paid software or an account; they simply type into the fields, sign the signature field and save the file.
Can I protect the layout while allowing field input?
Yes. FormForge adds form fields on top of your existing PDF, so the page itself — the drafted clauses, headings and layout — stays fixed. Whoever fills the form can only type into the fields you place; they cannot edit the underlying document text. For fields you want visible but not editable, such as a pre-filled matter reference, you can switch on the per-field “Read Only” toggle in the properties panel, which exports that field as read-only in the finished PDF.
Is it free for commercial use?
Yes. Yes. FormForge includes dedicated signature and date field types you can place exactly where each party signs and dates a document — useful for engagement letters, declarations and powers of attorney. They export as standard PDF form fields — places to capture a signature and a date, rather than certificate-based digital signatures. If you also want the finished file cryptographically sealed, the export dialog can add a standards-compliant digital signature, using a key that never leaves your device.
What kinds of legal forms can I make fillable?
Almost any document-based form a firm uses: client intake and conflict-check sheets, engagement and retainer letters, declarations and affidavits, powers of attorney, NDAs and consent forms, and court or filing forms supplied as PDFs. If it exists as a PDF, you can add text, checkbox, dropdown, date and signature fields to it.
Can it place the signature and initial boxes for me?
It can propose them. “Detect fields” runs an FFDNet object-detection model inside your browser and marks text boxes, checkboxes and signature fields on a flat PDF — a contract or intake sheet that carries no form fields yet. Treat the result as a first pass to review rather than a substitute for your own check: it detects only those three types, and it replaces any fields already inside the page range you select, with the exact count shown in the dialog beforehand. A detected signature field is a form field for capturing a signature, not a certificate-based digital signature — that is a separate, optional step in the export dialog. The document is analysed on your device and never leaves your browser.
